Application/Selection Process
Recruitment for potential interns/trainees begins at the end of January each year. The Student Intern Program accepts qualified students enrolled in an accredited university/college training program. Two required orientation/informational meetings will occur in February for MFT Trainees and in late February and very early March for MSW Interns. Application/selection process will be discussed. Please contact the Intern Coordinator by email to confirm date/time/location.
MFT Trainees are interviewed in February and MSW Interns in March each year. Contact the Student Intern Coordinator by email initially regarding all internship opportunities. Complete and mail the application packet (application, resume, letter of intent, statement of purpose, two letters of recommendation, and Fall Semester Evaluation for MSW students) to Coordinator. After receipt, informational interviews are arranged. Following these interviews, interviews to individual clinic sites are arranged. Although most graduate-level students begin in the fall of each year and follow the academic year, other time frames are possible depending upon the availability of a Clinical Supervisor.
We participate each year in the Bridging the Gap Event: Internship and Career Fair sponsored by the Career Center at SJSU. This usually takes place in late January or early February in the Student Union Building on campus. Contact the SJSU Career Center website for information regarding this annual event: www.careercenter.sjsu.edu.
IF you are a POST-GRADUATE PhD, MFT or MSW, please read carefully:
We DO NOT place MFTIs, ASWs nor post-grad PhDs as volunteers for licensing hours. Please review the county employment site at: www.sccjobs.org for information regarding positions and list formation for either Psychiatric Social Worker I/II; Marriage and Family Therapist I/II for unlicensed/licensed positions or for Clinical Psychologist for post-grad PhDs.
